Marek’s Disease in Backyard Poultry: A Re-emerging Disease

Marek’s disease is the most common tumor disease of chickens. Marek’s vaccines have helped immensely in the control of the disease in commercial flocks. Backyard flocks are rarely vaccinated for Marek’s disease, so the incidence of Marek’s disease in these flocks is high. This lecture will provide an overview of Marek’s disease with emphasis on prevention and use of Marek’s vaccines.

This lecture will discuss new labeling and study summaries for veterinary biologics and the overall regulatory approach by the USDA for vaccines, bacterins, toxoids, antibody products, allergenic extracts, immunomodulators, and diagnostic test kits.
